ANNOUNCING

The 2006
KFS T-Shirt Design Contest

Our 2006 T-shirt design contest was quite the event, featuring entrants from various parts of the U.S. and including over 20 different designs.  The KFS board deliberated long and hard over the final choice and we are delighted to announce that the winning designer is Todd Zimmerman of Kalamazoo.

Todd is a freelance artist, native to Kalamazoo, who has worked on theatre design, medical illustrations and taught at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts for many years.  He has also produced industrial sound tracks and music for theatrical productions and runs a small indie record label  - “Uma Nota Records”.   He’s keen on the paintings of Edward Hopper, the illustrations of Ernest Shepherd and the movies of Michael Powell, Fritz Lang and Ernst Lubitsch.  Some of his favorite actors are Gary Cooper, Peter Lorre, Edward Arnold, Anna May Wong, Gloria Stewart and Myrna Loy.

When asked to comment on his winning design, Todd said the following...
"I was happy to participate in the KFS T-Shirt design contest.
The Kalamazoo Film Society is a great cultural asset to the community and it is an honor to have my work selected for the design.  I was hoping to capture some of the mystique of the classic theatre marquee and the femme fatales of the film noir era.  Knowing the final design was to be a silk screen suggested to me the woodcut style as used by German Expressionist cinema.  It was a great project to work on and I hope film-lovers enjoy the shirts as much as I enjoyed making the design."

Photo samples of the new KFS T-shirt are featured below.
They are available in sizes ranging from Medium to X-Large
in the following colors -
 White,
Burnt Red, Violet, Charcoal Gray and Black.

This year's T-shirts also come with a choice of  two classic movie quotes
featured on the back.
The first quote is from the 1941 film - "The Maltese Falcon".
The second quote is from the 1950 film - "Sunset Boulevard".

These stylish T-shirts are on sale at The Little Theatre during KFS film weekends for the convenient price of $12 each.
All proceeds raised help secure the future availability of great films
on the big screen at The Little Theatre in Kalamazoo, courtesy of the
all-volunteer, non-profit organization known by cinephiles near and far as
The Kalamazoo Film Society.
