From the Aisle Seat – Brigsby Bear

On the heels of MAUDIE opening a week before, we are delighted to be following that with a sweet indie film called BRIGSBY BEAR. Maybe you have seen the trailer and still can’t figure it out. Don’t worry; this film is better experienced walking in not knowing anything about it. Read about it after. If you want larger themes, it is about creativity, friendship, bad or good parenting, working together and connecting with people in an imposing world. A Sundance favorite, it has a vivid imagination that wanders into Michel Gondry (BE KIND REWIND) or Yorgos Yanthimos (DOGTOOTH) territory yet not having a mean bone in its composition. Maybe throw in a little bit of Wes Anderson too. It’s always been a pleasure of ours to introduce first time filmmakers, like Dave McCary here. It was co-written by SNL cast member, Kyle Mooney who also stars as James and Kevin Costello, a first time screenwriter. Manohla Dargis, the N.Y. Times esteemed film critic and no easy sell on any film, gave this gem a 90% score. Wonderful support work comes from Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, Jane Adams and Greg Kinnear. Find some time and let your imagination run with the rest of us. Don’t miss BRIGSBY BEAR.
